Freddie Prinze Biography: Freddie Prinze Jr. was born on March 8th, 1976 in Los Angeles although he grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After graduating from high school, Freddie moved to Los Angeles in hopes of becoming a star. His "big break" came when he starred as a punk kid on an episode of the television series Family Matters. His real break came when he starred opposite Clair Danes in the movie To Gillian On Her 37th Birthday. Freddie is probably recognized most from his role as Ray in the horror flick I Know What You Did Last Summer. Since then Freddie has appeared in such movies as She's All That, Wing Commander, and most recently Boys and Girls.
Is acting in the blood? Freddie Prinze Jr. is the son of the late, infamous actor/comedian Freddie Prinze (Sr.). As soon as Freddie finished high school, he headed to L.A. to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor like his late father.
In 1995, Freddie landed a small role in the television show, Family Matters. After that, he got his big break playing opposite Claire Danes in To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday.
In 1997, Freddie got the starring role opposite teen sensations, Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jennifer Love Hewitt in I Know What You Did Last Summer. This was THE movie that set his career on fire! Freddie had "arrived".
Freddie is now the guy who gets cast in the hot teen/young adult movies. Every role, a hit. Every role, launching his career into further stardom. Freddie is definitely becoming a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.
Of the rising clique of new stars that have hit movie screens in the last little while, Freddie Prinze Jr. stands apart as one of the most talented of the bunch. He is already one of the most popular actors amongst teenagers, but his appeal is starting to catch on with a broader audience.
His father, Freddie Prinze Sr., was an actor who was most known for his role on the television show Chico and the Man. Unfortunately, his father committed suicide when Freddie Jr. was still very young, and he never really had the opportunity to get to know him. Still, the father's legacy lived on through the son, and from a very early age Freddie Jr. showed an interest in make-believe and acting.
Freddie was born on March 8th, 1976, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He attended La Cueva High School but was a less than stellar student who always had his head in the clouds. He always showed an interest in drama however, and he became a member of both the Albuquerque Children's Theater and the Duo Drama Company at a young age. He soon began auditioning for television roles when he finally finished high school in 1994.
Freddie moved out to Los Angeles in that same year. His first little step towards an acting career came with a guest spot on Family Matters. More guest spots, After School Specials and television movies followed. An attractive young star with a dark appeal, he was tailormade for boyfriend roles and bully roles. Prinze made his big screen debut in To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday, a moderately successful film scribed by David Kelly (Ally McBeal, The Practice) and starring the writer's wife, Michelle Pfeiffer. In the film, Prinze plays the boyfriend of Peter Gallagher and Michelle Pfeiffer's onscreen daughter, Claire Danes. Freddie's role was small, but it introduced him into a whole new showbiz world. Prinze landed in Hollywood at just the right time. The industry was prepping for a surge in teen-oriented programming which would be touched off by Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. By landing a role in the latter and its sequel, he was catapulted to stardom. Freddie's role in the films has proven fortunate, as they have given the visibility that is necessary for any wannabe star. With his slasher film roles in the bag, Prinze next showed his comedic abilities in She's All That, the fun, much loved, and surprisingly successful sleeper hit of the Spring of 99. Opposite Rachel Leigh Cook, he melted hearts and amused audiences. Freddie recently got a taste of real life in Hollywood when his film Wing Commander, co-starring Matthew Lillard, tanked at the box office. Trained in several forms of martial arts, Freddie certainly has the discipline and dedication needed to bounce back and overcome obstacles, and we certainly have not seen the last of him.
