 Kate Moss Biography

Kate Moss was discovered by Sarah Doukas of Storm Agency at JFK Airport when she was fourteen. After being featured in the British magazine The Face, she caught the eye of Harper's Bazaar editor-in-chief Liz Tilberis who featured her in the September 1992 relaunch issue. Calvin Klein then signed Kate, and through his media saturation landed her image on every magazine, bus stop, and billboard in North America. This seemingly overnight success has not come without criticism, however. Her thin physique caused controversy over the "fashionable" waif look; it managed to land her on a 1993 People cover under the title "Skin and Bones." Her atypical look (small stature and slight weight) seemed to be the 90's response to the Amazon supermodels of previous decades and as a result, critics presumed that Kate's popularity would be short-lived. Now, nearly six years later, Kate's career hasn't waned. The press has moved on to other personalities, and Kate, who has always kept a relatively low profile, has survived unscathed. She still maintains a rather cultish following in the fashion world and her only response to critics: "The more visible they make me, the more invisible I become."
