feeling the least bit dated. It centers on the love triangle of Billie Dawn,
Harry Brock and Paul Verrall. Billie and Harry have been living together for
nearly ten years (and this is 1946!), and have developed a relationship
based on specific roles. Their life together gets knocked around once they
come to Washington, where Harry is trying to score some key legislation for
his junk business. His legal front-man is Ed Devery, who brings Senator
Hedges in on the deal. After an evening with the Hedges, Harry realizes that
Billie is really out-to-sea in this environment. So he brings in Paul to
teach Billie so Harry won’t be embarrassed with her at social events. Paul,
though, is onto what Harry is doing there. He takes the job with Billie to
stay close to what Harry is up to. But, once he gets to know Billie..

DARIEN: The Darien Players are pleased to announce open auditions for Cry
Havoc, Written by Allan R. Kenward and Directed by Richard Mancini. Hailed
as a female Journey's End, this is the story of nurses on Bataan. In a sort
of dugout subjected to gunfire the individual characters emerge to offer a
collective reaction to war. These include the strong-minded doctor, her
restrained and poised assistant and the volunteer nurses: a vacuous Southern
girl, a swaggering bully, a couple of timid aesthetes, an ex burlesque girl
and the inevitable spy. They get on each other's nerves, arrest the wrong
person for spying and confront the real traitor. They are rescued from their
buried dugout only to face the firing squad. This is a compelling, caustic
revelation of human beings under fire. Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20
at 7:30pm @ DAC Art Studio, 2 Renshaw Road, Darien behind the town hall
adjacent to the baseball field. Performance dates are July 11-July 26,
Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm. This production is non-union,
non-paid. All roles are open. Be prepared to read from the play. Sides are
available in the DAC office or upon request. Seeking 12 women. Age
breakdown is general – do not let it discourage you from auditioning. Note
that this play was written during the war years of the 1940s and that its
situations and characters, as well as the author’s descriptions that follow,
reflect the attitudes of that time. For more information, please visit

MANSFIELD: Un-Common Young Adult's Group announces Auditions for SWEENEY
TODD - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The rare instance of a musical
thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s chilling, suspenseful,
heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous barber-ism and culinary crime tells
the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century
London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and
ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his
unfortunate customers, and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop
downstairs soon has the people of London lining up in droves with her
mysterious new meat pie recipe! Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and
uncompromising, “Sweeney Todd” nevertheless has a great sense of fun, mixing
intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor: audiences find
themselves laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise the
next. Recently revived on Broadway and the subject of a new movie staring
Johnny Depp, this show has rarely been performed in the past, partly due to
Mr. Sondheim's complicated and brilliant musical score. The Moss hart Award
wining directorial team of Christa Crewdson (Director) and Chris Charig
(Musical Director) are excited to take on this task and are looking forward
to meeting many hopeful auditioners. Auditions will be held Monday May
12th, 2008 by appointment only. For Audition Details first go to
www.uncommontheatre.org then call or email for an audition appointment.

will be held Wednesday, June 4. Anyone interested in auditioning, should
arrive at The Playhouse 136 Rivet St. (corner of County St.), New Bedford,
at 7:30 PM. Under Milk Wood, Dylan Thomas’ most famous and enduring work
was first performed by six actors in New York in May 1953 with Thomas
himself reading the First Voice. Originally intended for radio – it was
broadcast with Richard Burton in January 1954 – it has delighted theatre
audiences for more than half a century. Funny, bawdy, sad and sensual, it
captures twenty-four hours in the lives – and dreams – of the inhabitants of
Llareggub ("bugger all" spelt backwards), an imaginary, small seaside town
in south Wales. An all-seeing narrator invites the audience to listen to the
dreams and innermost thoughts of the inhabitants of this imaginary small
Welsh village. They include Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard, relentlessly bossing her
two dead husbands; Captain Cat, reliving his seafaring times; the two Mrs.
Dai Breads; Organ Morgan, obsessed with his music; and Polly Garter, pining
for her dead lover. Later, the town wakes and, aware now of how their
feelings affect whatever they do, we watch them go about their daily
business. Director Robin Richard needs people with good vocal skills
capable of portraying characters ranging in age from late teens to eighty
years of age. Mr. Richard added “I plan to use 5 men and 4 women. One man
will be First Voice and the other 8 actors will play 4 or 5 characters.
Voices are most important in that of all actors must breath life into each
of their 5 characters using their voice only.” The play will be presented
as a recreation of the BBC Radio Broadcast of 1954. The stage will be set as
a radio studio and the actors will read from scripts. For additional
information, call YTI at 508-993 0772, or e-mail ytinc@verizon.net

Sunday, May 18th 6:00-9:00 pm, and Monday, May 19th from 7:00-10:00 pm.
Born Yesterday is a romantic comedy with a political undercurrent that still
hits home sixty years later. It sparkles with wit and intelligence without
feeling the least bit dated.
But, once he gets to know Billie.

WAITSFIELD: Have you ever wanted to direct a play, but didn’t want to start
with a full blown production? Now is your chance to try your hand with a
brand new 10 minute play. The Valley Players is pleased to announce the
production of “Love ~ The Human Comedy," a 10-minute play festival to be
presented during the Festival of the Arts from Thursday, August 7 through
Sunday, August 10. New directors are invited to participate. These are six
brand new short plays with small casts written by the same 6 Women@60
playwrights who wrote the plays at last year’s festival. Each play is a
brief peek at a relationship that is mostly comic, sometimes poignant and
often thoroughly recognizable. The VP has three veteran directors (Henry
Erickson, Mitchell Kontoff and Teresa Langston) who will direct a play and
provide support and advice with assistance from Ruth Ann Pattee as well. The
idea is to provide a fun opportunity for both director and actor, not to
mention some laughs for the Festival of the Arts’ audiences and to increase
the Valley Players’ pool of potential directors. All 6 plays will be
presented each evening, therefore sets will be minimal. Unlike recent VP
events, this is not a reading and actors will be learning lines. There will
be more information about the auditions once the directors are selected, but
right now, auditions are planned for May 25 and 26 and rehearsals start
after June 16. On May 1 at 6 pm potential directors are invited to hear the
new plays read aloud and enjoy some pizza. Anyone interested in coming to
the reading or volunteering is asked to contact producer Jennifer Howard at
496-3751 or valleyplayers@madriver.com. If you can’t make the reading then
let her know you are interested.
