Not long after, in 1991 she transferred to Wilmington College and acquired her Bachelors of Arts degree in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Social Work.

In 1989 SAM was hired as a state employee for the Department of Services For Children, Youth, And Their Families, and subsequently became a Family Service Specialist (Juvenile Probation/Aftercare Officer), working in that capacity for 10 years, with a high priority caseload of 100-1000 adjudicated youth per annum.
