Awards Shows w/ Winners and Nominees
We've listed many awards shows the learn about. They include how and where to vote for your favorite celebrities or movies. It also includes past winners and nominees for awards.
The Academy Awards
The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are the most well known, influential, and prestigious, of film awards. The gold-plated statues (and the award they represent) have been presented annually since May 1929 by a professional organization known as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), based in Beverly Hills, California, which was founded in 1927.
The Emmy Awards
The Daytime Emmy Awards (there are also Primetime Emmy Awards) has been honoring excellence in all fields of daytime television production for 32 years. The Emmy is awarded in 58 categories, including acknowledgements for series, performers and all other technical and creative areas of production. Each year the office of the Daytime Emmy Awards processes over 5,000 entries and over 3,000 voter registration forms, culminating with a televised show that pays tribute to the exceptional work of daytime television's elite.
The Golden Globe Awards
Glitz and glamour returned to Hollywood as The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group of Southern California-based international journalists, announced the winners of their 62nd Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 16, 2005. The outfits were - overall - pretty classy, but the tone was subdued and the show itself had very little pizzazz. Other than Jamie Foxx's acceptance speech for "Ray" and Robin Williams' mile-a-minute monologue when he was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the whole affair seemed to be lifeless.
The Grammy Awards
The Grammy Award is the granddaddy of all music awards, dating back over four decades; it is to music what the Oscars are to the movies. (The name "Grammy" is short for "gramophone," since the awards are shaped like those old-fashioned phonographs). Over the years L.A. and New York have played tug-of-war with the Grammy Awards show. The result? The Grammy ceremony has been held thirty two times in Los Angeles, ten times in New York City, and once in Nashville.
The MTV Movie Awards
With a theme of "behind the scenes at the movies," MTV hosted a star-studded evening at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards. Host Jimmy Fallon was the ringmaster for the fourteenth annual show, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Hollywood, CA. Eminem, Mariah Carey, and Foo Fighters gave electrifying performances - as fans have come to expect from this high-energy event, which airs on MTV Thursday, June 9, at 8:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
The MTV Video Music Awards
There's really no substitute for experience. Such is the lesson to be gleaned from the crop of nominees for the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards, where familiar faces like Gwen Stefani, Missy Elliott and seasoned punks Green Day lead the pack. Nominees were unveiled in Miami on Monday morning (July 25), where it was also revealed that de facto Miami mayor P. Diddy will serve as host when the VMAs return to the city on Sunday, August 28.
The SAG Awards
Lauded by critics for its style, simplicity and genuine warmth, the Screen Actors Guild Awards® has become one of the industry’s most prized honors. The only televised awards shows to exclusively honor performers, it presents thirteen awards for acting in film and television in a fast moving two hour show which airs live on TNT. The awards focus on both individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture.
The Teen Choice Awards
The coveted Teen Choice surfboard will be presented to the celebrities deemed the coolest by teens across the country. Categories include Choice Actor/Actress, Choice Date Movie, Choice TV Sidekick, Choice Reality Show, Choice Rap Artist and Choice Hottie. As the polls heat up over the summer, “Wave Two” of the ballot will launch on June 16, followed by “Wave Three” on July 12. Teens can continue to vote on Waves one, two and three through Thursday, Aug.4.
The Tony Awards
The 58th Annual Tony Awards®, the most anticipated evening in American Theater, was broadcast live from the Radio City Music Hall in New York on Sunday, June 6, at 8 PM, live ET/delayed PT on CBS. This was the seventh year that the historic Radio City Music Hall was home to the Tonys. |
