Viktoriya Makes the Grammy Ballot
Singer in Grammy Round-
It's a long road from Ukraine to the Grammys, but pop vocalist Viktoriya has made the first step on that journey.
Material from the Lower paxton Twp. 19-year-old's disc "Under Your Spell" is in the preliminary round of voting in five Grammy categories - record, album and song of the year, best pop collaboration with vocals and best pop vocal album.
"It's so overwhelming right now." Viktoriya said. (Her full name is Viktoriya Shetilova). "People are starting to recognize me and give me credibility."
Viktoriya, her parents and older sister arrived in the United States in 1991 unable to speak English and with little money. Since then Viktoriya has done acting, modeling and she's a pharmacy student at Harrisburg Area Community College.
According to the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which awards the Grammys, its membership is now considering all of the material that has been submitted.
By Nov. 18 each category will be reduced to 30 finalists.
The next round of voting determines the five artists, songs, albums etc. that will appear on the final ballot.
